| Business Ambassadors Group - Jan 2010 |
January 2010 |
| On
3rd February the ‘Green Knowledge Economy – Business Ambassadors Group’
met for the first time at the Bournemouth International Centre. Stephen
MacLaughlin, Leader of Bournemouth Borough Council and MAA Board member
gave a presentation to the guests to introduce the concept of the
‘green knowledge economy’ and to position it as a worthy strategic
initiative for the 21st century. He explained that maximising the
benefits flowing from government policies that seek to reduce the
impact of carbon on our communities makes good commercial sense and is
something that this sub-region is well able to benefit from. Further
meetings of the Business Ambassadors are planned. |

Visit to Whitehall - January 2010 |

A
delegation from the Partnership journeyed to Whitehall on 20th January
to meet with representatives from a number of government departments
including; Communities & Local Government, Energy and Climate
Change and Business, Innovation and Skills. The meeting purpose was to
establish new working relationships with colleagues in the Whitehall
departments and increase their understanding of the work we are doing
to advance our programme – work we wanted to show them aligns well with
their objectives. The meeting was judged useful and it is now hoped
special freedoms, flexibilities and funding opportunities will be
offered to help test our aspirations for the sub-regions economic
development. |

Local Investment Plan for Bournemouth Dorset & Poole |
| 31 March 2010 |
- The Bournemouth Dorset and Poole Local Investment Plan is
one of the first in the country to be produced through the Homes and
Communities Agency’s new business process, the “Single Conversation”. The
Single Conversation in Dorset is based on the Multi Area Agreement area
covering the whole sub-region and covers all housing, infrastructure and
regeneration priorities in the area with a strong emphasis on local
place-shaping. The sub-region’s local authorities have agreed their
shared ambitions and objectives for sustainable economic growth and
regeneration, in consultation with key stakeholders. This is a critical
process to enable the Dorset sub-region to gain government funding over the
next 2 years as a minimum. The Local Investment Plan will form the basis
of a commissioning process for funding from the Homes and Communities Agency
and other regional agencies. Contact John McBride, Chief Executive, Poole
Borough Council on 01202 633001 or Sarah Ward, Chairman, Bournemouth Dorset and
Poole Strategic Housing Group on 01305 252313 for more information.
