Multi-Area Agreement (MAA)

Government backing for economic development

Local residents and businesses stand to benefit from a long-term plan for sustainable economic growth of Bournemouth Dorset & Poole.

Bournemouth Dorset & Poole has been selected by the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) as one of seven pilot Multi-Area Agreements (MAA) in the country. The agreement was formally signed by Hazel Blears, Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government with other Government ministers at a ceremony in London in July 2008. Members of the MAA board, including the Leaders of Dorset County Council, Bournemouth Borough Council and Borough of Poole attended the ceremony.

The MAA is a formal agreement between local authorities, public sector partners in Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset and the Government to improve the economic performance of the sub-region focusing on the following themes:

  • Business growth
  • Skills
  • Transport and Connectivity
  • Housing
  • Environment

Gordon Page, Chairman of the Dorset MAA Board, said: “We are extremely pleased with the decision made by the Department of Communities and Local Government and this is evidence of how good partnership working will benefit and enhance the future economy for the Dorset region.”

Now that the agreement has been signed, the partnership is working hard to deliver results on the ground.
