Before the system was overhauled to create a more comprehensive ‘annual health check’, ratings for NHS trusts were awarded using the star rating system, which were awarded on a four point scale from 0 stars to 3 stars.  Latest data shows that all of the area’s main NHS trusts scored well and are delivering a high quality of service.  There are also private hospitals located in Bournemouth, Poole and Dorchester.

Latest statistics indicate that life expectancy in the Dorset sub-region is noticeably higher than both the regional and national averages.  Males and females born in the area are expected to live for over two years longer than the corresponding averages for England and Wales.  Although these statistics do not attempt to explain the differentials between areas, we like to think it is due to our unique environment and excellent leisure facilities.
